Clarksville...Virginia's Only Lakeside Town

With 50,000 acres of fresh water filled with white, striped and largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie,  Buggs Island Lake is a highly acclaimed fishing lake, and a haven for outdoor recreation including boating, sailing, skiiing, and swimming.  Clarksville also offers hunting, hiking and golfing opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.

If history is your thing, be sure to enjoy the downtown walking tour of  60 buildings including homes, churches and businesses listed on the Virginia and National Registers of Historic Places.  You will also want to visit Prestwould Plantation, an 18th century plantation and National Historic Landmark, and stop to honor our veterans at the Mecklenburg Country Veterans Memorial Monument.  At nearby Occoneechee State Park, you can learn the story of the Occoneechee Indians, the Native Americans who inhabited this area prior to the  1800s.

Clarksville is also known for its charming downtown shops and restaurants.  Whether looking for art or antiques, a gourmet meal or a slice of pizza, there's something for everyone downtown. Our downtown merchants and Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce also host a variety of events throughout the year.

Nearing its third decade, the Virginia Lake Festival is Clarksville's signature event held the third weekend in July and attracting more than 70,000 people each year.  The organizers of the Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge and Harvest Days celebration,  in only their third year since racing returned to Clarksville, are working hard to bring just as many visitors to Clarksville for the first weekend in October.

Visitors to Clarksville have a choice of accommodations, from deluxe lakeside accommodations to wooded campgrounds, from Bed and Breakfast Inns to lakeside vacation rentals.

Only an hour from Raleigh, NC,  two hours from Richmond, VA and three from Hampton Roads, VA, Clarksville is easy to find, but oh so much harder to leave.

Visit the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce website.
